Scott
brothers win cup for Platt.
Five goals by Chris Scott and one
by his brother Colin, in the semi-final and final of the
Sevenoaks six-a-side competition at Brasted on Thursday
evening, clinched the cup for Platt.
In one semi-final Platt slammed much-fancied
Brasted and Sundridge 4-1 and then went on to beat Halstead
3-1 in a hard fought final.
Chris Scott opened the scoring for
Platt with a seventh minute goal which gave Brasted keeper,
King little chance, but two minutes later Syd Backley put
Brasted back on level terms.
Brasted hung on until the second-half,
but then, with Platt playing down the slope, their quicker
covering and more accurate passing took its toll and Chris
Scott put them ahead after 15 minutes. Brother Colin added
a third (17 mins) and Semark completed the scoring (18
mins).
The final was unexpectedly close and
the 3-1 scoreline gives little indication of the run of
play. Chris Scott pulled the ball back from the dead-ball
line to round off a solo effort with a first minute goal,
but Halstead hit back with several promising moves and
equalised from a Parker free-kick just outside the area
(3rd min).
Both sides came within inches of scoring
until the stroke of half-time, when Chris Scott sliced a
shot and the ball floated over Dicker's head to give Platt
a rather lucky lead.
Playing down the slope, a rapidly-tiring
Halstead side was gradually pushed out of the game and Platt
made attack after attack. Their superiority lay in using
the six-a-side rules to their full scope. Halstead players
hung back as if worried by the offside rule, which of course,
does not apply, while Platt moved constructively into open
spaces.
Using their pin-point passing to swing
the ball across the pitch, Platt wore down this young Halstead
side, which persisted in keeping the ball close, and in the
17th minute Chris Scott put the result beyond doubt.
