Early Burst Flaws Westfield
Platt
Utd 4 Westfield 0
A three-goal
salvo from Platt United during the first 20 minutes
of Bank Holiday Monday's Weald of Kent Charity (Senior)
Cup Final, saw the Mid-Kent side put their name on the
trophy at the first time of asking.
Platt saw keeper
Andy Tappin make a good save after only a minute as United's
defence stood still.
After five
minutes, Joe Adu was brought down in the area and the same
player made no mistake with the spot kick to put United,
taking part in the competition for the first time, 1-0
up.
A Tim Burrows
corner found Darryl Smith who made it 2-0 with only 10
minutes gone.
Two Adu efforts
went wide as United took control allowing Chris Hills to
find space and slot home number three after 20 minutes.
Platt's Tim
Burrows and Mike Perry dominated the midfield and the lively
Hills hit a tremendous shot which Westfield keeper Atkins
tipped over the bar.
Westfield had
no answer to the pace of Adu and Hills but somehow managed
to keep the score down to 3-0 at half-time.
The second-half
saw Platt content to sit back on their lead. Westfield
enjoyed plenty of possession but Stan Faulkes, Darryl Smith,
Stewart Castro and Sean Allen stood firm.
A move involving
Burrows and Adu resulted in a good save by Atkins before
Hills laid on number four for Adu who crashed his shot
into the roof of the net.
Platt keeper
Tappin equalled his Sevenoaks Charity (Junior) Cup feat
of keeping a clean sheet in every game en-route to the
final.
Platt boss
Glenn Broad, said: "It was a very good first-half
team performance. We won the match in the first 20 minutes
and I am pleased for the players".
