A goal each for strike
partners Daryl Andrews and Gary Bowman allowed Platt Utd
Reserves
to ease to victory in the Sevenoaks Charity (Junior) Cup
Final at Greatness Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Kent County League Reserve
Division outfit and last year's beaten finalists controlled
a one-sided final, in which UK Rentals Division One side
Hever rarely threatened, to lift the trophy.
Platt goalkeeper Andrew Tappin
was a spectator for much of the match and easily maintained
his record of not having conceded a goal throughout the
tournament.
The action moved from end to
end in the opening exchanges although Hever did cause a
scare from a corner after just five minutes.
Seven minutes Platt striker
Andrews pulled the first opportunity wide and then Glenn
Miller saw a 30 yard chip fly narrowly over.
Platt now dominated and Matthew
Allen was unlucky when a close-range header was somehow
cleared off the line.
The Reserves took the lead
on the half hour when Andrews chased a long ball and hooked
it across his body into the far corner beyond the despairing
dive of Everitt.
Bowman wasted a chance to double
the lead five minutes before the break when he headed weakly
into the keeper's arms. However, the striker made no mistake
a minute after the interval as Platt increased their advantage
without a Hever player having touched the ball. A sequence
of 10 passes was superbly strung together before Bowman
trapped the ball and turned to fire a stunning second into
the corner of the net.
The goal stung Hever into action,
substitute Bovingdon fired wide from six yards before Tappin
saved brilliantly at the feet of the on-rushing Moore.
But Platt should have scored
again when Bowman headed wide from close in before Petty
was spectacularly denied by an out-stretched Hever foot
near the final whistle.
