High
fives for Platt 'A'
Platt 'A' 5 Dunton
Green Res. 0
Report
courtesy of Derek Hodge. Third
Division Platt United 'A' won the final of the Fisher Shield
competition, which is in it's 25th year, with a comfortable
5-0 victory over
Hire-It District League Second Division opponents Dunton Green Reserves at
the Common, Chipstead Lane, Riverhead, last Wednesday night.
On a warm evening and roared on by a large following, the
Green were disappointing never getting to grips with the
game. Green midfielder Martin Norburn battled in vain , while
the goalscoring prowess of striker Mark Uzzell was held in
check by the robust tackling of the Mid-Kent side's defenders.
Platt's bustling strikers Gary Piper and Rob Twitchett complimented
one another well up front and the use of aerial balls from
the flanks exploited Dunton Green's weakness in the air.
Platt's goalkeeper was a virtual spectator throughout
although he was brought into the action on a couple of occasions
towards the end.
Peter Green put Platt ahead on 13 minutes scoring from close
range after a corner on the right taken by Stuart Fisher.
Almost on the half hour Gary Bowman rose above Dunton Green's
defence to head powerfully past keeper Vince Hounsel.
A 2-0 interval lead was no more than Platt deserved and
they went further ahead five minutes into the second-half.
A free-kick taken on the left found the unmarked Kevin Brown
who headed into the goal.
Seven minutes later a cross from the right by Fisher went
straight to Twitchett who finished clinically before Piper
wrapped up the scoring.
