St
George's Recover To Snatch Trophy
Platt 2 St
George's (Wrotham) 4
Platt and St George's have been battling
all season for honours in the Premier Division of the Sevenoaks
and District League. So, for the winners at least, this
Fisher Trophy Final on Saturday provided some consolation
for being pipped at the post by Greatness United. In a
thrilling game St George's lifted the trophy, winning 4-2.
In the 35 minute Evans broke down
the right wing and centred an inch-perfect cross to Bowen,
who made no mistake with a header from about 15 yards,
to give Platt the lead.
Platt, with their tails up, now pushed
forward and in the 41st minute, Maytum, in the St George's
defence, completely misjudged a ball which let Bowen through
to score their second goal.
St George's came out in the second-half
determined to play themselves back in the game. Right from
the whistle Rothwell went at the Platt defence, hit the
ball goalwards, striking a defender. The ball bounced off
the defender to present the easiest of chances.
This was just the tonic St George's
needed at this stage of the game. They mounted several
attacks and it was from a corner that Newman controlled
the cross and stabbed the ball home to level the score
at 2-2.
After this, play became a little scrappy
at times, with Platt getting the best of the midfield play.
Again from a corner St George's went
in front with a beautiful headed goal from Maytum.
With about 20 minutes left Platt brought
the best out of the St George's goalkeeper, Everard, who
was forced to bring off a series of excellent saves.
Ten minutes from the end St George's
sewed the game up when Newman hit home a cross from Wright
on the left. They then substituted Miles, who had had an
excellent game up front, for Hewson, a midfield player.
